Introducing MyCanRisk: Helping You Understand Your Hereditary Cancer Risk
Understanding your family history is an important part of assessing your risk of developing certain cancers. However, remembering details about relatives, their medical history and ages at diagnosis can sometimes be challenging.
MyCanRisk has been developed by the University of Cambridge to help patients gather this information in their own time, before attending a genetic counselling appointment.
What is MyCanRisk?
MyCanRisk works alongside the CanRisk risk assessment tool and allows you to enter information about:
Your personal medical history and relevant risk factors.
Your family structure, including parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Any history of breast, ovarian, prostate or pancreatic cancer in your family.
The approximate ages at which relatives were diagnosed.
You can complete the assessment on a mobile phone, tablet or computer. If you are unsure about certain details, you can provide estimates or select 'unknown'.
Why complete MyCanRisk before your consultation?
At Genetic Experts, we encourage patients attending hereditary cancer risk consultations to complete MyCanRisk in advance and securely send their completed assessment to us.
This gives you time to check family history details with relatives and helps us gather important information before your appointment. Your genetic counsellor can then review the information, discuss your family history and use the CanRisk tool to help assess your hereditary cancer risk.
Your information remains on your own device until you download and share the completed file. Please use the secure submission method provided by Genetic Experts rather than personal email or social media.
